SUN Behavioral Delaware
Sun Behavioral Delaware
In order to most effectively serve the unmet needs of our community, we partner with local schools, social services, hospitals, and doctors. Our number one priority is to ensure the best possible outcomes for those that we treat, from programs that save lives to educating people about addiction and mental health issues.
More than 43 million U.S. adults experience mental illness every year. Approximately 1 in 5 young people 13–18 (21.4%) experiences a severe mental disorder at some point during their lives. For children aged 8–15, it’s 13%.
You are not alone. If you or someone you love is struggling, we can help. SUN counselors are available 24 hours a day, seven days a week to help with everything from urgent situations to questions about our programs.
Care Through Community
At SUN Behavioral, our core values include safety, teamwork, integrity, and compassion.
By emphasizing these values, we’re able to accomplish our mission of partnering with communities to solve the unmet needs of those who suffer from mental illness and substance use disorders.
Our values reflect the behaviors that our employees determined to be essential to providing the best care possible. A company-wide nomination process led to the formation of our Values Committee, 15 people across three of our hospitals, who led the process to determine SUN’s values. Our four values frame everything we do. Each value reflects behaviors that we hold ourselves to on behalf of our patients and their loved ones, as well as each other.
At SUN Behavioral Delaware, we offer a full-continuum of services to help you overcome mental health and substance use disorders.
We place special emphasis on the treatment of co-occurring disorders. This is a phenomena that is marked by a person suffering from one or more mental health issues alongside addiction.
SUN Behavioral’s clinical team will take a thorough history and decide if the client struggles with co-occurring disorders. The complicated nature of co-occurring disorders makes treatment more challenging, which leaves these persons vulnerable to relapse and other adverse outcomes.
In Sussex County Delaware, 11% of citizens struggle with frequent physical distress, while 14% have persistent mental anguish. These facts exemplify the need for treating co-occurring disorders that address mental health and substance use treatment. SUN behavioral has clinical teams ready to make sure you receive the best possible addiction treatment and behavioral health assistance.

Adult Mental Health Services: Our adult mental health programs use evidence-based treatment, including everything from psychopharmacology to cognitive behavioral therapy. Our trauma care approach also uses the principles of safety, empowerment, trustworthiness, collaboration, and choice.
Adult Outpatient Services: Our outpatient clinic includes two important services, a partial hospitalization program and intensive outpatient program. This allows us to provide unique options for counseling services that are individualized for each patient.
Partial Hospitalization (PHP): PHP cares for patients who may be transitioning from inpatient care. It is also a suitable fit for more intensive treatment which can prevent the need for hospitalization.
Intensive Outpatient (IOP): IOP is for anyone who may be stepping down from PHP, but needs the support and structure of treatment. It is suitable for those who may need more intensive treatment than that offered in outpatient care.
Telehealth Programming: We know that in-person treatment isn’t always an option. That’s why we’ve developed the ability to offer remotely the same compassionate care as our in-person outpatient programming.
